Giostra
Giostra is a very young winery owned by Michele and Amir that we got to know during the harvest of Lammidia in the summer of 2021. In Abruzzo, they work together and help each other. Therefore, the harvest is always a celebration and all like-minded people are therefore invited. While we were picking, Marco from Lammidia called out to Michele from Giostra if they were interested in being an importer in the Netherlands and to that they called out that they would call their new orange wine for 2022 Van Basten, since Marco van Basten has a huge hero status in Italy. That's where our collaboration was born.
About the winery
Giostra is a very young wine estate owned by Michele and Amir. The 2020 harvest was their first and for that they were able to use their winemakers friends from Cantina Lammidia.
Now they have started their own domain in Abruzzo, but the grapes are 100% from Molise, where they come from. Molise is an unknown area in Italy between Abruzzo and Puglia, but has enormous potential.
Amir and Michele wanted to make their love of wines and pride in the region better known to a wider audience, and we are convinced they will succeed. The area in Molise is often at a higher altitude and the grapes they use include the mountain falanghina (for the Van Basten wine) and the Tintillia, a grape that only grows in Molise on high altitude vineyards.
They started their first year with 2,500 bottles, but their circulation is growing. They make wine without intervention - spontaneous fermentation - and without any additives. No sulfites or filtering whatsoever. You can taste that in the wines that are tremendously pure. In their wines you can taste the grape, the soil and the environment.
