Luca Bevilacqua
Although the name suggests otherwise - Bevilacqua literally means "drinks water" - Luca is a wine producer of natural wines with as few additives as possible. We got in touch with him through Lammidia where we helped in the harvest in the summer of 2021 and so ended up in the tremendously cordial and beautiful natural wine scene of Abruzzo. We had drunk Luca's wines at that time in the punk wine bar La Vineria Supermarket on the Abruzzo coast and were very impressed with the fresh clean style where the grapes really come into their own.
About the winery
Luca Bevilacqua lives and produces wines in Atessa in the Val di Sangro in the Italian region of Abruzzo. The estate has only a few acres of land with 35-year-old vines on clay soil 300 above sea level.
Actually, it is a family business, as Luca's father also made wines, but mainly for friends and family. Luca - who therefore has wine running through his blood - made his hobby his profession and became a professional sommelier and in 2006 decided to continue the family vineyard to develop his own wines.
Less than 10000 bottles are produced annually and the motto is to let the grapes of Abruzzo speak as much as possible. Therefore, think pure montepulciano, trebbiano and passerina and wines that are really made for drinking. It sometimes sounds irreverent to say, but we mean it positively when we say that Luca really does make pure grape juice, putting Abruzzo on the map.
In any case, we can't wait to see what Luca will come up with in the future!
