and Spain, but will continue to expand in the future.

There are many different delicious sparkling wines. Champagne, prosecco, cava and crémant, among others, are widely consumed. Bubbles are often served on festive occasions, but a delicious sparkling wine is certainly delicious at other times as well. Many popular sparkling wines come from Italy, France and Spain, although they are also made in other regions. Looking for a special sparkling wine? Then consider a pet nat. This abbreviation stands for pétillant naturel, or a natural wine with bubbles. A special method is used to make this wine.

How is Pet nat made?

The difference between pet nat and other sparkling wines is in the method of fermentation. Pet nat is made in a very old way. In this method ancestrale, only one fermentation takes place. This is in contrast to the method traditionelle, which requires a second fermentation. To make pet nat, the winemaker lets grape juice ferment in a barrel. After this, the pet nat is quickly bottled without removing the yeasts. As a result, fermentation continues in the sealed bottle, creating the natural bubbles. With champagne and other sparkling wines, additional yeasts or sugars are often added during the process. With pet nat, this is not the case. Other additives are not used either. As a result, pet nat is a delicious sparkling natural wine.

An unfiltered natural wine

Pet nat is a real natural wine. This means that the grapes are grown organically or biodynamically and no additives may be used during the making process. The wine is not filtered and therefore often has a cloudy appearance. Also, in pet nat, no sulfite is added, or at least tremendously little. The grapes for natural wine, and thus also for pétillant naturel, are picked by hand. No fertilizers or chemical pesticides are used, and no additives are allowed to affect the taste of the wine. As a result, natural wine has an intense flavor, which can vary considerably from vintage to vintage. The character of the grapes can often be easily tasted in the final product.

The best Pet Nat bubbles

If you like to drink pet nat bubbles, you have many different types of wine to choose from. Pet nat is made as red, white and rosé wines. The taste is often fairly dry, as the sugars disappear during fermentation. Still, the flavors vary widely. Thus, there is a tasty pet nat for every type of wine lover. Due to the natural making process, these wines are often produced in small batches. At Aardig Wijntje you can choose from a number of beautiful sparkling wines, including some tasty Pet Nat wines. Get to know this special wine and enjoy the extra special bubbles.
