Uva de Vida
Uva de Vida is a small family-owned winery in the La Mancha region of central Spain. The winery was founded in 2005 by Maria Carmen López Delgado and Luis Ruiz, after they bought a piece of land in Santa Olalla. From moment one, Carmen and Luis have worked completely biodynamically, respecting the lunar cycle. For example, the vines are sprayed with herbal tea preparations to balance the life in the soil.
About the winery
Carmen and Luis' vineyards are located at 40 degrees north latitude and at an altitude of nearly 500 meters. The vines are mainly planted on clay soils, with nine acres of Graciano, a particular red grape variety, along with three acres of Tempranillo. Castilla La Mancha's climate is extreme, with high temperatures and very little rainfall. To maintain biodiversity, grain fields and olive trees are planted among the vines.
Without the use of copper or sulfur in the vineyards, Uva de Vida produces a range of energetic, balanced, fruity natural wines made from Graciano and the popular Tempranillo grape. All grapes are hand-picked; once in the cellar, Carmen and Luis adopt the philosophy of minimal intervention. The goal is to make wines that are part of nature and its processes, that taste like old wines, before the entry of chemistry, that promote health and always feel good. The wines reflect the place of origin and its terroir.
We were immediately sold when we first encountered Biografico wine from Uva de Vida at the Garage Bar in Madrid! Intense red fruit, a spicy, smooth finish, and at such a good price; we were clearly triggered to taste more from this winemaker. This we did with great success and delight. And now we would like you to experience the same drinking pleasure!
